Protective styles are hairstyles that Africans have been using for a long time to tame their afro hair because it is coarse and painful to brush or comb every day. There are so many different types of protective styles and as the name suggests, they are to protect your hair for a short period of time. Having protectives styles be stylish, different, and can also make life a little bit easier in the mornings when you don’t have to brush out hair.
What styles can I try?
There are Single plaits, box braids and triangle braids. Single plaits or box braids take a long time to do. It could take anything between 2 to 8 hours depending on the size, length and your own hair texture.

They are ideal for the festival look or even for a classy dinner date. They come in different sizes and you can add colour synthetic extensions to it without damaging your own hair.

Both children and adults can get them
They are less expensive

The disadvantages are that they only last between 1-3 weeks
